The Clairvoyant (1934)

3 out of 4 stars

This was a wonderful movie that I had not heard of before. It stars Claude Rains as Maximus. He travels with his wife (played by Faye Wray) and parents and performs as a music hall clairvoyant. The only problem is he is not psychic. Until one day when Christine comes to his performance and he is able to see the future. From then on he is only able to make his predications when Christine is around. This obviously causes problems in his marriage. When he predicts a major catastrophe in a mine he is put on trial as a fake who caused the disaster by his prediction. His wife Rene and Christine must come together to save the man they both love. The story is far fetched but I still liked it. I thought the acting was excellent and actually pretty believable. When it comes on TCM (it's not out on DVD or VHS) make sure to catch it.
